Creating Zero Waste
What do we do with the waste from coconuts • liters of coconut water • coconut flakes • husk • shells?
Coconut oil processing produces a lot of waste, including coconut husk, coconut shell, and coconut water. In addition to this once processed there is the residual coconut cake. We always aim to use all the waste. We are lucky that in Goa several industries require our by-products. The fibrous coconut husk is used by the Jute industry. The shells are sold for conversion to coconut charcoal and on to activated carbon. These are also used by the handicrafts industry. Coconut water is used in the process. After the oil is extracted, the coconut pulp is further processed into low-fat desiccated coconut which is packaged and sold.
